Moscow to Host BRICS International Municipal Forum on 27–28 August 2024

The BRICS International Municipal Forum will serve as one of the largest international platforms for discussions of municipal cooperation and the exchange of experience among BRICS cities and regions in the run-up to the BRICS Summit, which will be held in Kazan on 22–24 October 2024. The Forum programme includes more than 70 business events and a major exposition, which will provide unique opportunities to establish business contacts and find new partners, particularly among representatives of small and medium-sized businesses.

“We expect that entrepreneurs, public figures, and representatives of municipalities from 500 cities in 126 countries will take part in the International Municipal Forum during Russia’s BRICS Chairship. Such economic dialogue between countries at the municipal level aims to improve the quality of life of the association’s citizens. The Forum concept involves discussions of international, inter-municipal, and inter-parliamentary cooperation and the exchange of best practices concerning the sustainable development of megacities,” said Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation Anton Kobyakov, who serves as executive secretary of the Organizing Committee for Russia’s BRICS Chairship in 2024.

As part of the Forum’s business programme, experts will discuss the development of trade and investment relations and exchange experience in the use of digital technologies, artificial intelligence, and green technologies to create a comfortable living environment. The programme discussions will address environmental issues, climate change, as well as the role of BRICS countries in ensuring sustainable development. Another key focus will be social and humanitarian issues, including solutions in education, healthcare, culture, and tourism, in an effort to enhance the attractiveness of cities, territories, and regions.

The Forum is being held with the support of the Russian Presidential Administration, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Russian Federation Council, and the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The Roscongress Foundation manages the events of Russia’s BRICS Chairship.
