9th BRICS Young Scientists Forum Set for Sirius
The 9th BRICS Young Scientists Forum, at which the winners of the 7th BRICS Young Innovator Prize are expected to be announced, will be held at the Sirius Federal Territory from 25 to 29 November 2024. BRICS researchers will also take part in the business programme of the 4th Young Scientists Congress, an important annual part of the Decade of Science and Technology in Russia.
The Young Scientists Forum is intended to develop international relations among the youth, consolidate scientific knowledge in search of answers to common social problems, and solidify BRICS position in global science and technology. The event will be attended by more than 170 talented researchers and young BRICS scientists.
As BRICS chair in 2024, Russia will hold the annual Forum in four thematic areas capable of driving a more sustainable future: artificial intelligence (AI), digital humanities, environmental and climate technologies, and nature-like and convergent technologies. Journalists and Congress participants will have full access to the work of the young scientists presented in the programme areas.
Foresight interviews, also open to Congress participants and journalists, will be held on the Forum sidelines with leading Russian companies operating on the international market. Russian market leaders EFCO Group, PhosAgro, Nornickel, SIBUR, and Gazprombank will share their vision of the future and where technology is leading.
The Forum programme will also include the 7th BRICS Young Innovator Prize, which brings together talented young entrepreneurs and researchers from across BRICS every year. The aim of the competition is to identify top research and innovation projects with the potential to contribute to global scientific and economic development and engage large numbers of young scientists in scientific and technical cooperation internationally. Applications were accepted in five areas this year: green technologies for the chemical industry, green technologies for the food industry, green technologies for the agricultural industry, AI technologies, and the special category ‘Palladium and Future Technologies’ (awarded separately).
Winners will be announced before the plenary session of the 4th Young Scientists Congress on 28 November.
BRICS delegates will also participate in the 4th Young Scientists Congress activities dedicated to strengthening scientific, technological, and educational cooperation within BRICS, with separate discussions to consider the role of BRICS in the creation of a multipolar world order and the search for new ways to strengthen international ties. Participants will also discuss opportunities for implementing joint young BRICS scientist research projects in priority areas of scientific and technological development.
