Future of Diplomacy and Diplomatic Services International Research Conference Held in Moscow

The Future of Diplomacy and Diplomatic Services International Research Conference was held at the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 15 November as part of Russia’s BRICS Chairship.

The event was attended by delegations from diplomatic academies and institutes in BRICS and partner nations (19 countries in total), the heads of authoritative Russian think tanks, and the representatives of diplomatic missions accredited in Moscow. It marked the first time the rectors of BRICS diplomatic academies and institutes met with authoritative experts to discuss topical issues in person – previous meetings had all taken place online.

Ambassador-at-Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russian Federation, Russia’s Sous-Sherpa for BRICS Pavel Knyazev opened the Conference with the welcoming address to the participants from the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov.

The conference was moderated by Vice-Rector for Research and Scientific Work of the Diplomatic Academy of the MFA of Russia Oleg Karpovich.

Conference participants discussed various aspects of the development of diplomacy and the diplomatic service and shared their experience training diplomats in the face of the challenges that come with creating a multipolar world. The speakers paid particular attention on how diplomatic practice was being affected by digital diplomacy, new technologies, and artificial intelligence. It is also planned to publish a summary of the reports and presentations made during the conference.
