St. Petersburg Hosts International Forum and Competition of Young BRICS Researchers on Current Problems with Subsoil Use

St. Petersburg Mining University hosted the International Forum and Competition of Young BRICS Researchers on Current Problems with Subsoil Use on 18 October 2024. The event, which was held on the sidelines of the international conference ‘Mineral Resources as the Foundation of National Sovereignty: Personnel and an Innovative Environment’, is an open discussion platform at which young researchers, mainly from BRICS member states and the African continent, have the opportunity to speak to experts and exchange experience with their peers from other countries.

More than 800 people from 42 countries, including participants BRICS member states, took part in the events.

The intellectual competition was held based on the Olympic principle of ‘it’s not about winning, but about taking part’, with five winners in each section. On the one hand, this preserves the competition format, while, on the other hand, it is clear that the main goal is not to identify the best of the best, but to motivate a large pool of talented young people to pursue professional growth and further development as prominent scientists or engineers.

As part of the event’s programme, young researchers, representatives of key ministries, and heads of universities discussed a wide range of topical issues, including technological, scientific, and educational aspects of international relations in the raw materials and energy sectors and ways to further develop them.

Following the discussion, the participants adopted a declaration on their intention to continue the dialogue on strategic issues in the mineral resource sector in order to develop common approaches to the state regulation of subsoil use relations, as well as the priority development and improvement of the quality of higher engineering and technical education in BRICS countries.

The Roscongress Foundation manages the events of Russia’s BRICS chairship.
