Meeting of the Organizing Committee for Russia’s BRICS Chairship in 2024 held in Moscow

A regular meeting of the Organizing Committee for Russia’s BRICS Chairship in 2024 was held in Moscow. The meeting was chaired by Russian Presidential Aide Yury Ushakov and attended by the representatives of key ministries and government agencies.

The meeting participants offered a high assessment of the work carried out as part of Russia’s BRICS Chairship to date. Since the start of the year, roughly 140 high-level and expert events have been successfully held in 13 cities of Russia and abroad, including the BRICS Parliamentary Forum, the BRICS Inter-Party Forum, meetings of BRICS Education Ministers and Sports Ministers, the meeting of the Heads of BRICS Prosecution Services, the BRICS Chief Justices Forum, and the meeting of the Heads of BRICS Supreme Audit Institutions. A key event of the first half of Russia’s chairship was the meeting of BRICS Foreign Ministers, as well as an extended session as part of the meeting that was attended by the foreign ministers of the states of the Global South in Nizhny Novgorod.

One of the top achievements of the chairship was the launch of new formats of interaction, specifically the first meetings of BRICS transport ministers and heads of geological services, as well as the first BRICS Nuclear Medicine Forum.

The participants particularly noted the work that federal executive bodies have performed with the coordinating role of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to organically integrate new member states into the BRICS activities.

During the meeting, the officials closely examined practical aspects of preparations for the main event of Russia’s chairship – the BRICS Summit in Kazan on 22-24 October 2024. The Summit will be attended by the leaders of BRICS countries and CIS partners, heads of state that preside over regional integration associations in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East, as well as heads of leading international structures.

Adviser to the Russian President and Executive Secretary of the Organizing Committee for Russia’s BRICS Chairship Anton Kobyakov presented a detailed report on the work that has been carried out to prepare the Tatarstan capital to receive numerous high-level delegations.

In his speech, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Russia’s BRICS Sherpa Sergey Ryabkov emphasized that Russia’s BRICS Chairship is proceeding with excellent practical results at all levels. He said it has strengthened Russia’s authority, as well as its ability to work on the current agenda on international platforms.

Russian Deputy Minister of Finance Yelena Yakovleva in her speech focused on issues related to financial support for the Summit events.

Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan and Head of the Tatarstan Cabinet of Ministers Shamil Gafarov presented a detailed report on the preparedness of Kazan’s infrastructure, including the Kazan Expo International Exhibition Centre, where the main events of the Summit will be held.

The meeting participants agreed that preparations for the Summit are entering the decisive stage and noted the high level of readiness of all services and structures to host the event.
