First BRICS Tourism Forum to Take Place in Moscow

On 20-21 June 2024 Moscow will host the first BRICS tourism forum. The event is being organized by the Ministry for Economic Development of the Russian Federation and the Government of Moscow.

“This year Russia is chairing the expanded BRICS. We are focusing the traditional meeting of the countries’ ministers of tourism on a practical result”, noted Maxim Reshetnikov, Minister for Economic Development of the Russian Federation. “We intend to consolidate the cooperation plan and the regulations of the BRICS tourism working group, thereby confirming the official status of the BRICS tourism track. The Forum’s business programme will promote strong links between the tourism businesses of the BRICS countries, signing of mutually beneficial contracts and presentation of each country’s tourism potential. This will help our countries to develop a prosperous economy”.

The programme includes expert sessions with the participation of major stakeholders and a meeting of BRICS tourism ministers.

“Today, travellers from BRICS countries account for over half the trips taken from remote countries to Moscow. The Forum will help secure for the Russian capital the status of a leading world tourist centre. The business event will bring together over 300 representatives of related departments, the business community, heads of associations and industry experts”, remarked Deputy Moscow Mayor Natalya Sergunina.

The first day of the Forum will consist of negotiations and presentations of tour operator products, services for travellers and other industry projects from different countries.

Moscow will present its flagship project the “Russpass” service, including tour proposals by almost all regions of Russia, as well as an updated version of the English-language portal “Discover Moscow”, bringing together for foreign tourists the fullest information about the city’s tourist attractions, museums, theatres, shops and restaurants.

The key event of the second day will be a plenary session dedicated to the prospects for international cooperation between BRICS countries.

The event programme also includes a series of sessions on key aspects of cooperation and development of the BRICS countries’ tourist industries. For instance, the session “Digitalization of the recreation and hospitality industry. Artificial intelligence” will be devoted to development of the online industry and the impact of modern technologies on the industry.

The session “Sustainable tourism: how does ESG change the travel industry?” will identify approaches to creating a complex infrastructure convenient for guests – not just hotels and restaurants, but will also touch on aspects of building a developed transport system, parks and squares, availability of useful services and much more. Moscow will share the experience it has gained in this sphere.

The operator of the Russia's BRICS Chairship events is the Roscongress Foundation.
