Meeting of Heads of BRICS Emergency Agencies Set for Kazan

Kazan will host a Meeting of the Heads of BRICS Emergency Agencies on 10–11 July 2024. Interaction between BRICS emergency agencies is an important component of strategic initiatives aimed at developing a shared system for security and mutual assistance.

The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations has been making every effort to create the conditions necessary for exchanging experience on a wide range of issues of mutual interest and developing the potential for co-operation on a practical level. In February, the Ministry held a crisis management centre training session via videoconference, and the 6th meeting of the BRICS Working Group on Disaster Risk Management took place in Arkhangelsk in April.

During the meeting, emergency service representatives will share their experiences in developing national disaster management systems, with special attention paid to the development of natural hazard monitoring, information, and early warning systems. Participants will discuss the development of national search and rescue teams and consider ways of sharing information among the various crisis management centres in the most effective way. The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations will also be sharing its knowledge and experience in emergency prevention and response with an exhibition of special equipment and simulation exercises.

As part of the meeting, participants will also visit an exhibition of fire and rescue equipment with demonstrations of responses to road traffic accidents and combat deployment. An important part of the programme will be held at the Centre of the State Inspectorate for Small Vessels with simulations in the Kazanka River of putting out a fire on a vessel, rescuing victims from the water, and mitigating an emergency oil spill with the help of watercraft and aviation.
