BRICS Countries Stepping up Cooperation on Staff Training in the Context of Energy Transition

On 27–28 June 2024 a roundtable on the development of BRICS human resources potential in the context of energy transition was held in Obninsk. The event was organized by the Russian Energy Agency by Russia’s Ministry of Energy with the support of Rosatom State Corporation.

The roundtable was held with a view to enhance cooperation in training energy sector personnel in BRICS countries. The BRICS Energy Research Platform’s study (prepared in 2023) on human resource development in the energy transition marked the beginning of BRICS cooperation in this area.

Anastasia Bondarenko, State Secretary and Deputy Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation, welcomed the participants. “It is obvious that staffing training needs in the energy field differs from country to country but the large number of similar tasks opens up potential for increasing co-operation in this area”, she said.

During the event, BRICS representatives shared their national strategies for training energy sector personnel. The participants highlighted the following promising areas: development of cooperation among the BRICS countries in the field of education and training, exchange of practical knowledge, and expansion of cooperation among young people.

The roundtable results will be submitted for approval by the second meeting of the BRICS Senior Officials Committee on Energy to be held in Kemerovo on 2–4 July 2024.
