BRICS Central Banks Discuss Cybersecurity

Representatives of BRICS central banks and financial market regulators took part in the first meeting of the BRICS Rapid Information Security Channel (BRISC).

The main focus was put on the first joint cross-border cyber exercises, aimed at determining the preparedness of BRICS central banks to respond to cross-border computer attacks.

The agenda also included data exchange on computer attacks and cyber threats, the need to update BRICS cyber security regulations, and various aspects of the internal security systems of financial institutions. Meeting participants agreed to continue publishing compilations of best BRICS practices in financial sector information security.

BRISC is an expert platform for BRICS central bank information security and computer incident response teams. BRISC meetings are held 3–4 times a year, with interaction covering 4 main areas: prevention, identification, response, and recovery.

The next BRISC meeting is planned for the second quarter of 2024 and will be held online.
