Moscow to Host BRICS Energy Week

The Russian Ministry of Energy is teaming up with the expert community and industry organizations to hold BRICS Energy Week from 24 to 28 September as part of Russia’s BRICS Chairship.

The BRICS event will kick off with the third Meeting of the Committee of Senior Energy Officials to be held during Russia’s Chairship. The first two BRICS energy dialogue events were held in Moscow and Kemerovo.

“International cooperation on energy projects is gaining in relevance as the global energy sector changes: multipolarity necessitates new approaches to global issues, and cooperation within BRICS is a key to success. Energy-related activities as part of Russia’s BRICS Chairship and Russian Energy Week business programme discussions will strengthen international ties and advance BRICS into a more prominent role in the global energy sector. Joint efforts were aimed at establishing international project offices for the development of energy cooperation within BRICS,” Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation and Executive Secretary of the Organizing Committee for Russia’s Chairship of BRICS in 2024 Anton Kobyakov said.

BRICS Energy Week will culminate in a meeting of energy ministers on 26 September on the sidelines of the Russian Energy Week International Forum. BRICS ministers will share their countries’ energy policies, sum up the results of the energy dialogue within Russia’s Chairship, and come to an understanding of where BRICS energy cooperation should lead next. The work of the BRICS Energy Research Platform – a presentation of research into a fairer energy transition in particular – will be at the centre of attention. The meeting is expected to wrap up with the adoption of a joint statement.

“The Meeting of BRICS Senior Energy Officials is a key part of the energy agenda of Russia’s BRICS Chairship. We look forward to talking with our partners about priority areas for cooperation in technology, trade, investment and research, and opportunities to train personnel together,” Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Sergey Tsivelev said.

BRICS experts will present the results of research of the implementation of a fairer energy transition in BRICS and discuss joint approaches to the issue with representatives of international organizations, including the UN, OPEC, and GECF, as part of the BRICS Energy Platform Annual Meeting, also scheduled to take place during Russian Energy Week, on 27 September.

BRICS Energy Week will end with the 6th Youth Energy Summit, scheduled for two venues on 27–28 September: the Atom Pavilion at VDNKh and the Manezh as part of Russian Energy Week Youth Day. Over the two days of the Summit, 100 youth representatives from BRICS and the Global South will team up with experts to develop a BRICS Youth Vision for global energy development trends and hold a presentation of the Youth World Energy Review prepared by the BRICS Youth Energy Agency.

Accreditation for the Russian Energy Week International Forum is needed to participate in the press approach following the Meeting of BRICS Senior Energy Officials and other BRICS Energy Week events.

The Roscongress Foundation manages the events of Russia’s BRICS Chairship and is organizing the Russian Energy Week International Forum.
