Johannesburg Hosts Meeting of BRICS Working Group on Competition Research in Food Markets
The BRICS Working Group on Competition Research in Food Markets held its latest meeting in Johannesburg on 3 September 2024 as part of Russia’s BRICS chairship.
The event was part of the 18th Annual Competition Law, Economics, and Policy Conference, which was organized by the South African Competition Commission on 3–5 September 2024 in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The co-chairs of the BRICS Working Group on Competition Research in Food Markets are the Russian Federal Antimonopoly Service and the South African Competition Commission.
The meeting of the BRICS Working Group on Competition Research in Food Markets provided its participants with an opportunity to discuss some of the most pressing issues concerning food security and competition policy, factors that have a negative impact on competition on the agricultural markets of BRICS and partner countries, as well as the role of international cooperation in addressing the development of competition in the agricultural sector.
The meeting marked the start of an ambitious study of food markets in BRICS countries with the involvement of the BRICS competition authorities and international organizations and the support of the BRICS Competition Law and Policy Centre.
The event was attended by representatives of the BRICS competition authorities, the UN Conference on Trade and Development, and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization.
The Roscongress Foundation manages the events of Russia’s BRICS chairship.
