BRICS Energy Research Platform Expert Meeting Held Online

On 26 April 2024 the BRICS Energy Research Platform hosted an online meeting of experts to discuss cooperation on hydrogen energy as part of Russia’s BRICS Chairship. The meeting was attended by ministry, business, and research organization representatives from BRICS countries. The event was moderated by Oleg Zhdaneyev, a representative of the Russian Energy Agency of the Ministry of Energy, on the basis of which the Russian Secretariat of the BRICS Energy Research Platform is functioning.

Discussions focused on strategic objectives and environmental sustainability, the harmonization of standards and methodological approaches to low-carbon hydrogen certification, financing mechanisms and investment, technological experience and innovation, and pilot projects, initiatives, and research and development. The ultimate goal of the discussions was to promote sustainable energy solutions and strengthen international cooperation around hydrogen innovation and environmental sustainability.

All of the participants of the meeting spoke of the importance of international cooperation on developing and implementing strategies aimed at addressing the challenges hydrogen technologies present and their role in achieving sustainable development goals.

The meeting will serve as a further incentive for the participating nations to continue working together and sharing knowledge and experience. The resulting recommendations will be presented and discussed in detail at the second meeting of the BRICS Committee of Senior Energy Officials scheduled for 2 to 4 July 2024. The ideas and proposals raised promise to shape future clean, sustainable energy policies and initiatives.
