BRICS Labour and Employment Ministers’ Meeting to Take Place in Sochi

The BRICS Labour and Employment Ministers’ Meeting will take place in Sochi on 9–10 September 2024 as part of the Russia’s BRICS Chairship.

The programme of events will include speeches by: Minister of Labour and Social Protection of the Russian Federation Anton Kotyakov; Director-General of the International Labour Organization Gilbert F. Houngbo; President of the International Social Security Association (ISSA) Mohammed Azman; Secretary General of the International Social Security Association Marcelo Caetano; President of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs Alexander Shokhin; and Chairman of the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Russia Mikhail Shmakov.

Around 100 participants are expected at the event, including more than 40 representatives of the BRICS Trade Union Forum, whose annual meeting will take place in Sochi before the Employment Ministers’ Meeting, on 7–8 September.

The agenda includes four sessions on key areas of Russia’s BRICS chairship pertaining to labour and employment: - “Development of a Career Guidance and Continuous Vocational Education System for the Entire Population” - “Platform Employment: Role in the Labour Market and Problems Regulating the Activities of Platform Workers” - “Ensuring a Safe Working Environment and Social Security for Employees” - “Developing Social Support for Citizens of the BRICS countries. Modern Social Policy Instruments”.

A Declaration will be adopted following the discussion outlining the main objectives of joint work on the current areas of cooperation among the BRICS Labour and Employment ministers.

The closing press conference will be held on Tuesday 10 September immediately following the adoption of the Declaration of the BRICS Labour and Employment Ministers, at around 13:30–13:50.
