Moscow to Host Meeting of BRICS Heads of Customs Administrations

Moscow will host the Meeting of BRICS Heads of Customs Administrations on 3 September 2024 as part of Russia’s BRICS chairmanship.

Customs administrations have always been guardians of economic security, as they ensure the population is protected against dangerous goods entering domestic markets, effectively replenish the state budget, and promote the development of fair trade.

These tasks requires customs administrations to constantly improve, be flexible, and adapt to changing conditions. They carry out systematic work at all levels of interaction between the parties involved in foreign economic activity to ensure that:

  • Customs infrastructure is being modernized and optimized
  • Advanced technologies are being introduced into customs clearance and customs control processes
  • Healthy competition is being supported through a reduction in trade barriers and the creation of better conditions for bona fide participants in foreign economic activity
  • Digital platforms are being improved for effective interaction with participants in foreign economic activity

During the meeting, the heads of BRICS customs administrations will discuss achievements in law enforcement cooperation, the digitalization and development of customs infrastructure, institutional development, as well as the recognition of the status of authorized economic operator institutions.

The agreements reached on key areas of interaction on the BRICS platform will be enshrined following the meeting.
