BRICS Anti-Corruption Working Group Met in Moscow
On 17 and 18 April Moscow hosted the first meeting of the BRICS Anti-Corruption Working Group (ACWG) scheduled for this year.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Vershinin welcomed the participants of the event. In his address, he highlighted the aspiration of the Russian BRICS Chariship to promote a unifying agenda based on the coinciding priorities of the BRICS members in the fight against corruption. The Deputy Minister further underlined that our countries should speak with one voice on a number of key issues of anti-corruption cooperation, including asset recovery.
That stance enjoyed support of the delegates. The ACWG stressed the importance of implementing joint capacity building, anti-corruption education and awareness-raising projects, enhancing cooperation in tracing and repatriation of illicit assets and formulating a common vision of further development of relevant multilateral mechanisms.
A special event held on the occasion of the ACWG meeting allowed BRICS experts to discuss the challenges hampering an effective anti-corruption cooperation with a focus on the recovery of virtual assets, and put forward recommendations on how to jointly address them. These inputs will be incorporated in the final deliverables of the Russian BRICS Chairship.
